Meet Michelle, Your Dance Copywriter

Hi!

I’m so happy you’re here.

If you’re like me, you like to know who you’re gonna be working with before you dive in.

I often get asked two simple questions. So I figured I’d answer them here.

Let’s get to know each other.

I have a dance background.

I started dancing when I was four years old. My mom put me in a tap/ballet combo class at a local rec center. We alternated between the two styles for the recital each year. I was a super shy, teeny little kid. But when I got on stage, I was full of personality and star power.

I’ve loved performing for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I always had a huge smile on my face during routines, and I would wave to the audience as we exited stage left. Needless to say, it was pretty easy to spot me.

I went to performing arts schools up until eighth grade. In middle school, my technique really started to improve. I had a Russian teacher who taught the Vaganova method of ballet. You can imagine how hardcore she was, but I learned so much from her. I attended Soulful Arts Dance Academy on scholarship. And was accepted to a pre-professional program at Gibbs High School in St. Pete, FL.

But... I turned it down. Like many dancers, I had a minor injury and worried about the pressures of the dance industry. Was I good enough? Was I perfect enough? Was I skinny enough? And I wanted the best of both worlds - a social life and the dance life. But I didn’t know how to balance both.

I almost became a ballet teacher twice, but the timing was off. So now, I dance for fun. It’s not something you ever really give up.

Once a dancer, always a dancer, right?

Dance led to the perfect copywriting niche.

In 2019, I started looking for work from home jobs. An ad for an online copywriting course kept popping up.

It wasn’t until the world shut down, and I was stuck at home with nothing to do, that I finally clicked that ad and committed to copywriting.

When it came time to pick a niche, I asked my husband what I should write about. What did I love so much that I would never get tired of talking about it? He immediately said “ballet”.

So here I am, a dance copywriter.

When I learned that I could have an impact in spreading helpful information to today’s dancers, I was totally on board. This is what I was meant to do. Helping people with something I’m passionate about. I haven’t looked back since.

My point of view of the dance world.

There are many aspects of the dance world that I don’t recall being talked about when I was a young dancer. Or maybe that was just because we had dial-up and no cell phones. But topics like perfectionism, disordered eating, adult ballet, and making everBODY feel welcome and supported were not openly discussed.

I hadn’t even heard of strength training until I was casually dancing as an adult. I wish I knew about things like strength training when I was younger because it would have made all of us stronger dancers.

So that’s why I’m here. To help you reach as many dancers as possible so they can reach their goals safely and have a long, successful career.

Let’s get personal.

🏔 I live in Seattle, WA with my husband, Kevin, and our dog, Bear. Bear is our only “child”.  And I take full responsibility for spoiling him.

💏 This year we celebrated our 11th anniversary. We got married fresh out of high school.

🌅 I’m a Florida girl through and through. I love the warmth of the sunshine and wearing flip flops every chance I get.

💚 I hated the color pink as a kid, which is unavoidable when you do ballet. But it’s grown on me, the older I get.

🚌 I drove a school bus for almost 9 years before I became a copywriter.

🏡 I’ve lived in 7 states. I grew up in Florida so that’s home. But the cooler temperatures and the nature in Washington are refreshing. If I could combine the cool temps with the constant sunshine, that would be my happy place.

🏰 My last name is German. It’s pronounced HOW-K. Like “how”, with a K at the end.

🎬 Growing up, my mom and I were the live version of Gilmore Girls. Our weekends consisted of take out, junk food, and movie marathons from Blockbuster. (If you don’t know what Blockbuster is, that just proves I’m a millennial.)

🍮 I’m a foodie. I’ll eat pretty much anything and always try something once. I love to bake but don’t enjoy cooking. I like when something can cook in the oven while I do something else. It makes the day feel more productive.

✈ Traveling is one of my favorite things. Seeing different cultures, meeting new people, and eating delicious food (of course) make for some great memories.

That’s me in a nutshell.

I’d love to get to know YOU.
